Dear Arkavores:
We are expecting light showers for the Certified Arkansas Farmers Market in Argenta this Saturday, yet we don't expect this to change the number of farmers or the variety of produce they will have on hand.
Crop Reports-Just the Highlights!
Peaches are back for one last chance to stock up for the long winter. Our Russian Farmer has been patiently waiting on this orchard to get ready, and told me by phone that he had picked some that weighed one pound each! They will go fast! Also, we will see more apples this weekend, as this apple crop starts to come in a little better. We will continue to see a few green beans, good selection of tomatoes, eggplant, herbs, eggs, honey and pastured meats. Argenta Market Bakery will have a new cheese foccocia bread, par-baked pizza crusts, seven grain and pecan whole wheat bread, as well as four styles of fresh grass fed egg pasta. We will have more breakfast snacks, a new watermelon basil tea, and fresh fair trade coffee. We expect some muscadines to come into the market this weekend, but in limited supply. Additionally, sweet and hot chilis are expected to be abundant this weekend, as well as new crop sweet potatoes, heirloom watermelons and some truly awesome honeydew melons that first arrived last weekend. Some of you found these high quality honeydew melons last weekend, and like me, can't wait to get another one. They are fantastic. Of course, I'm leaving off some things.....
CAFM ONLINE MARKET
The last official day of our market will be October 17 in Argenta with a big event called Fall Foodie Fest. From this point on we will transition to the winter market schedule, which will revolve around the CAFM Online Market. The way this will work is very similiar to what we have done all summer; however, we will only have a Saturday online order pickup instead of a full outdoor market. Some farmers may continue to set up at the outdoor market, but we expect most to depend primarily on the online ordering system that is working so well for all of us. Please go to www.cafm.locallygrown.net and sign up as soon as possible.
Remember that the online market opens on Sunday night and closes on Wednesday night, which gives the farmers a couple of days to get your order pulled and delivered to the market by Saturday morning. Online orders will be picked up between 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. at our current location in Argenta through the winter season.
Thanks for your continued support of CAFM. See you in Argenta!
