JUNE BAM 2010 PREVIEW

Planning our BAM generates excitement here at our home. We have so much fun grouping and pairing every item we place in the basket. I know if we didn't tell you anything about this basket, you would have absolute faith that we put together the most beautiful food basket of the month and you would be thinking and talking about it all week, wondering what goodies we have for you.

So, if you want all of it to be a surprise, do not read anything after Welcome New Members. If you can't wait....continue reading after the Welcome New Members.

EXTRA PRODUCTS

Extra products will be available. You may also visit our online market at www.cafm.locallygrown.net to order any additional items we may have listed. Our online market opens at 5pm this evening and will close at 12NOON on Wednesday.

VOLUNTEERS

It's going to be a hot week! I will do everything I can to keep us hydrated and cool. We will need as much help as we can get and the treats this month are very COOL! We work for food and a good time. If you would like to volunteer, please reply in your email and we will gladly put you on our team. We need volunteers Thursday and Friday anytime from 2pm to 6pm and Saturday in Argenta from 6 am to 11am and Conway and Searcy 10 minutes prior to distribution.

BASKET RETURNS

Please take care of your baskets. Some of the baskets being returned are not re-usable. Keep in mind, we use these to distribute food and should be kept clean and dry. We will once again have to purchase new baskets for distribution and when you return your basket next month and it is not re-usable, we will no not be able to offer the extra cheese for your return. Please return your re-usable green quart containers and any glass milk bottles. We do not have the space to recycle your plastic milk containers. Thank you.

NEW MEMBERS
Welcome to BAM. We hope you have read our rules and procedures. After you
receive your first basket, you are asked to bring your glass milk bottle and
basket back when you pick up your next basket and you will receive an extra half
pound of raw milk cheese. Please take care of your baskets, we reuse them and
we can not use baskets that have been stored outside and/or are dirty. Thank you.

If you are receiving this email and have not joined BAM, you may do so if you
join before 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June, 22 2010. Visit our online signup

Please reply to this email as soon as possible so we can get the orders in to
the farmers.

JUNE 2010 BAM PREVIEW

Our June basket will be overflowing! Some of our farmers are two weeks early with their crops and we were so excited to hear the great news. Several of our farmers have told us that this was the week we needed to prepare for distribution. The ripeness and quality should be superb!

In this basket, we will have 1lb of bacon, the vegetarian substitute will be honey. Blueberries, Blackberries, Peaches and Cantaloupe that will melt in your mouth. We are making a Blueberry Cobblers today for Father's Day. The Peaches and Cream Corn has been reported to be the “best ever”. We agree! The corn will be picked and delivered to you within hours! How fresh is that! Spring Mix, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, New Potatoes, Milk, Eggs and Cheese. Is your mouth watering yet? We may have a surprise or two left.

Thank you for your ongoing support for local farmers! If you have a family member
or friend that is interested in our CSA, please forward this email. We will have extra baskets this month due to the best week so far for local food!

"First Catch" Basket-A-Month moved to April
3/23/2010 7:36:34 AM

Hello BAM members,

We will NOT be distributing the "First Catch" catfish basket this week as previously thought.  We have a large number of members who will be out of town for Spring Break.

We will update www.ArkansasFood.net with the next tentative basket distribution for April.  We still plan on having the "First Catch" basket; it will probably be sometime during the first part of April and will include the asparagus. We will have the strawberry basket the latter part of April.

My apologies and we are looking forward to bountiful spring baskets. Thank you for your understanding and support.

We have decided to distribute the Basket-A-Month again in two weeks.  We are looking at March 25 to 27.  This will be our "First Catch" basket filled with catfish and all the fixins.

January Basket-A-Month pickup cancelled
1/19/2010 11:07:29 AM

We regret that limited farm inventories due to weather have forced us to cancel January's Basket-A-Month pickup. We ask for your understanding in this very difficult month to organize a suitable basket of local fresh produce.

We still aim to do 12 baskets in 2010, but like January 2009, we are unable to put together a high quality local food basket that you would value. We may expect this to be a continued pattern each year, although we have done several January baskets and they turned out nice in years past.  This year is hopefully an exception.

If you received BAM as a holiday gift and were expecting your first basket in January, we hope you will accept our deepest apologies.  You will still have three baskets owed to you; your subscription will begin in February (inventories permitting). Please let us know if you have any questions.

For a good selection of what is available locally, please go to the CAFM Online Market. We hope you will note 7 Doves Creamery will be delivering to the Argenta Online Market pickup and they need your continued support since January BAM is cancelled. You may place orders at the online market until Wednesday afternoon.

Thanks for your continued support!

2009-2010 CAFM Annual Market Report
1/19/2010 10:22:33 AM

2009-2010 CAFM Annual Market Report
From: Jody Hardin, President
Certified Arkansas Farmers Market, Inc. (CAFM)

Dear directors, members, and friends of CAFM:
Four years ago when we started Foodshed Farm and the Basket-A-Month (BAM) Community Supported Agriculture program, we dreamed that it would last forever, supporting many family farms and, equally, the families who want to eat local, fresh, seasonal foods from them.  We also wanted a consistent, twelve-months-per-year market for Arkansas' small and medium-sized farms, with policies in place that kept it strictly local and farmer driven.  Today we can say we have the foundation laid as BAM goes into its fifth year and the CAFM goes into its third year.  CAFM and BAM have served more than 40 farmers this past year, who in turn, served hundreds of local families fresh, clean food from their small family farms.

Construction has begun on Argenta Market!
1/10/2010 4:28:28 PM

I have waited patiently for a long time to say this:  Construction on Argenta Maket has begun!  On December 14, the new Argenta Market went under the hammer, and a complete remodeling job will transform the space into a beautiful, warm and well organized community grocery store--FINALLY!!!

November 2009 Basket-A-Month Distribution

Hello Arkavores:

This Saturday looks to be another solid market day for our CAFM Argenta farmers and customers.  And, we are only two more weeks away from Fall Foodie Fest in Argenta on October 17. Our farmers and more than 20 local chefs are gearing up for one last local food feast before winter sets in.  We hope you will mark your calendar and witness what is perhaps the largest local food event ever held in Arkansas. I think we are making history!
